Background: Kidneys excrete pancreatic enzymes.Hence,patients with chronic renal failure have elevated levels of serum pancreatic enzymes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of serum pancreatic enzyme levels in patients.The total and lipase in serum is significantly elevated in patients with chronic renal insufficiency regardless if they were treated with hemodialysis or not.
Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes of serum pancreatic enzyme levels in patients with chronic renal failure and compare it with healthy controls.
Materials and Methods: 30 patients with chronic renal failure were taken as cases. 15 healthy people were taken as controls.
The results: The mean activity of serum pancreatic enzymes was significantly higher in patients with chronic renal failure compared to that in the healthy controls.Chronuc renal failure patients had serum amylase and lipase levels higher than normal.The mean level of lipase in cases were 89.5U/L and in controls was 26.8U/L .the mean level of amylase in cses and controls were112.5su/dL and 29.13 su/dLrespectively.
Conclusion: Serum pancreatic enzymes are often elevated in chronic renal failure cases
